The State: A User’s Guide
A kind of curiosity cabinet, an ongoing series of objects created and found via thousands of persons, places and things from cities, towns, and rural areas around the world.
The state is metonymically “us.” The state is the small thing and “we humans” are the bigger thing it stands for, like Washington is the small thing and the federal government is the big thing it stands for.
The state (government) is anthropomorphically “us” in that it is a terrestrial god, it makes, funds by gifting, sponsors, and enforces the real world. It attributes human characteristics to “us” and it makes these characteristics up. This god’s religion is multiple (monist plural) and is family-based.
